Toen in 2020 het Coronavirus zo maar uit het niets tevoorschijn kwam en in rap tempo de wereld veroverde, was ik aan de buis gekluisterd. Ik verslond met een mengeling van angst en nieuwsgierigheid alle beelden en animaties van het oprukkende coronaleger, bestaande uit kleurige bollen met stekels en tentakels. Met mijn sculptuur 'Out of the Blue' probeer ik het toenmalige speelveld te verbeelden: hoe wij onverbiddelijk door de virussen in een hoek werden gedreven: er leek geen ontkomen aan.

In 2020, when the coronavirus had just appeared out of nowhere and rapidly conquered the world, I was glued to the television. I devoured with a mixture of fear and curiosity all the images and animations of the advancing coronavirus, consisting of colourful spheres with spines and tentacles. With my sculpture “Out of the Blue”, I try to depict the playing field at the time: how we were inexorably cornered by the viruses: there seemed to be no escape left.
